Suspended heart doctor Raj Mattu is throwing
himself into a new role with Coventry Rugby Club.
Dr Mattu, who remains suspended on full pay
from his job at Walsgrave Hospital, is offering support and advice to the
Coundon Road club.
The cardiologist, who is a keen rugger fan,
said: “When I was growing up, Coventry was one of the best teams in the
country but they seem to be struggling at the minute.
“I went along to watch them and one of the
management team recognised me and asked if there was anything I could do
training wise to improve the players’ overall fitness.
“I said I would be quite happy to help out
and advise on cardiovascular health and also to look at nutrition.
“It is potentially a very exciting time for
the club with the new stadium project coming along and I just hope I can
help.”
Dr Mattu is still waiting on the NHS
disciplinary process to sort out his suspension. He has not worked since
February 2002 after being accused of bullying.
