Call for end to surgeon's suspension - 23 February 2004

MPs are renewing their calls for a Coventry heart surgeon to be reinstated on the second anniversary of his suspension.

Dr Raj Mattu was relieved of his duties at Walsgrave Hospital in February 2002 over allegations he bullied a junior colleague.

Local MPs have debated the cardiologist's case in the Commons - Dr Mattu's supporters say he was victimised after complaining about some hospital practices.

The MP for Coventry North West Geoffrey Robinson said the delay in resolving the issue was costing a huge amount of money.
