Show to help heart clinic - Jan 21 2003

A Bollywood-style bash is being held in Coventry in support of suspended heart specialist Dr Raj Mattu.

The event aims to raise thousands of pounds to help keep the consultant's self-referral clinic running in Foleshill.

It takes place at Mercia Park Leisure Centre, Lockhurst Lane, on Saturday at 6.30pm.

The dinner-dance, Dil Ke Dhadkan - which translated means 'heartbeat' - is open to everyone.

Organiser and professional entertainer Rajendra Kumar, who has starred in TV shows The Bill and Casualty, hopes it will be a sell-out.

He said: "I've been to the clinic a few times and it's wonderful. It's something for the whole community, not just Asians, and it's free of charge.

"This is a family show and we want the whole community to come and see it."

The event features dancing, singing, acting and comedy, followed by a DJ set.

Kumar will compere and star in the show, which includes Coventry singers Shinda Sureela and Pardesi, and city-based dance group L2D.

Dr Mattu was suspended from Walsgrave Hospital in February last year for allegedly bullying a junior colleague, who now works in Cardiff.

He set up a week-ly health and heart clinic at St Paul's Church community hall, in Foleshill Road, where he has seen more than 450 patients.

Tickets for the show cost £20 for adults, £10 for under-16s, and are free for under-fives. They are available from Shah's Pan House, Foleshill Road, on 024 7666 5277, or Pioneer Travel, Clay Lane, on 024 7663 5313.
