On 21st February
2002, Dr Raj Mattu, one of the worlds leading Heart
Specialists, was suspended from duties at Walsgrave
Hospital Trust. This was done with the full support and
endorsement of the Chief Executive of the Trust, David
Loughton, and Chairman, Brian Stoten.
For more than 2 years now, Dr Mattu, under the
governments proposed new initiative, has been trying to
highlight to the Chief Executive and Chairman about the
plight of patients being admitted to Walsgrave Hospital,
that patients lives were being put in danger as a direct
result of 5 patients being treated in 4 patient bays,
thus preventing cardiac treatment being administered in
an emergency.
Following the lack of management support for his
concerns, Dr Mattu had no choice but to take the matter
public. He did this because he is from Coventry, was
schooled here at Foxford School, and feels passionate
about what is right for the people of Coventry. Having
educated himself at some of the world’s best Medical
facilities, London, Yale and Athens, he wanted to give
something back to Coventry.
During this entire period, instead of support and
encouragement to improve medical care at Walsgrave
Hospital, Dr Mattu has been victimised and harassed
beyond belief, which is appalling within a democratic
society.
What this means for you is one less heart specialist
doing their very best for you and the people of Coventry.
What this means is longer waiting lists with one less
Consultant, and the obvious danger of patient deaths.
This is not the first time Walsgrave Trust has done this
– it is a pattern of behaviour by the management
toward many Consultants. They are NOT helping you, but
hindering your medical care and undermining the NHS.
We call upon YOU, the people of Coventry and
Warwickshire, to support justice and protect yours and
your children’s health by getting Dr Mattu
reinstated with immediate effect – visit your MP’s
surgery now, and demand to get Dr Mattu back at work
– alternatively, write to us below and offer us your
help.
