Public Statement, 30 July 2007 - Dr Raj Mattu

“After five and a half years of my life having been taken away from me, I struggle to express my relief and joy on being told that that my suspension by University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust is at last lifted with immediate effect. It is no coincidence that this just decision follows the appointment of a new senior management team. The new Trust Chairman Phil Townshend had pledged to resolve my case. Following constructive meetings with Mr Townshend, Mr Martin Lee the interim Chief Executive, and Mr Gary Ward the interim Medical Director, I am pleased that I am duly reinstated as Consultant Cardiologist at UHCW and that the undertaking given to resolve matters has begun. This has been a terrible ordeal for me, my fiancée, family and friends. I can only hope that we will now be able to get on with our lives with the dignity and freedoms that everyone else enjoys.”

Public Statement, 30 July 2007
- Sangeeta Harish (Fiancée to Raj Mattu)

“I am extremely happy that the new Hospital Trust Management has finally done the right and honourable thing by reinstating Dr Raj Mattu. With millions of pounds spent on his suspension, Raj managed to agree meetings with the new Trust Chairman Phillip Townshend and the Interim Trust Chief Executive, Mr Martin Lee, without the expensive lawyers being involved. I am pleased that Mr Townshend has committed to the assurances that he gave at the Trust Board meetings. I am looking forward to Raj returning to work. We have suffered for five and a half years and we are looking forward to having a normal life again at long last.”
